GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart soccer team jumped out to an early lead and held on as it knocked off Rochester 1-0 in a non-conference contest on Cozzens Field this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 5-0-0 on the season. It is Hobart's best start to a season since it won its first five games to start the 2011 season.

Jake Hans played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves as he earned the shutout.
Aidan Hartman played all 90 minutes in goal for Rochester. He made three saves.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rochester finished the game with a 12-10 edge in shots on goal.
- The Yellowjackets had four corner kicks, and the Statesmen had two.
- With an assist today, Griffin Coutts extended his point streak to five games. He has a team-high seven assists on the year.

- Both teams had chances in the final 81 minutes of the game, but neither team would find the back of the net again.
- In the 15th minute, Junior Danny Spataro broke into the 18-yard box, but Hartman made a diving stop.
- At the opposite end of the field, Sebastian Ballesteros had an attempt blocked. Johnny Makula's rebound attempt just missed the crossbar.
- In the 20th minute, Will Fallona split a pair of defenders and fired a shot from 18 yards out that beat Hans but hit squarely in the center of the left goalpost.
- In the 38th minute, Fischer nearly gave Hobart a 2-0 lead, but his shot just missed the right goalpost.
- Spataro had Hobart's best chance in the second half, but his shot was smothered by Hartman.
- The Yellowjackets nearly tied the game in the final minute. In the closing seconds, Rochester earned a corner kick. The ball fell at the feet of Ballesteros at the edge of the 18. It took an extra bounce, which caused his shot to just miss the crossbar.

Hobart will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 15, when it begins a three-game road trip at Brockport. The non-conference contest is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
