GENESEO, N.Y.—The 16th-ranked William Smith soccer team scored twice in the second half as it defeated Geneseo 2-0 in a non-conference contest at College Stadium this afternoon. With the victory, the Herons improve to 4-1-0 on the season.

Emily McLouth played all 90 minutes in goal for the Knights (2-2-1).
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Herons finished the contest with a 14-3 advantage in shots, including an 8-1 margin in the second half.
- William Smith had nine corner kicks, and Geneseo had three.
SCORING SUMMARY
- William Smith broke the deadlock in the 65th minute. DeMura stepped up and converted a penalty kick, burying a shot into the right half of the goal. It was her first goal of the season.
- Seven minutes later, Solano gave William Smith a two-goal lead. She collected a pass from sophomore Addison Stockwin and lofted a shot from the top of the 18-yard box into the upper left corner of the goal. Junior Lily Pryzwansky also had an assist on the goal.
MATCH MOMENTS
- Junior Kristin Middaugh had the game's first chance in the third minute, but her shot was stopped by McLouth.
- The Herons kept the pressure on in the middle portion of the opening stanza. Sophomore Sofia Carney had the best chance, but her shot was smothered by the Geneseo goalie.
- In the 33rd minute, Hannah Goodness had a chance to break the deadlock, but her shot was turned aside.
- Geneseo's best chance came in the closing seconds of the first half. Ashley Pawelczyk's opportunity was saved by Goerke.
- In the 63rd minute, Carney collected a loose ball near the top of the 18-yard box. Her shot was punched over the crossbar at the last second by McLouth.
- First-year Lea Bryant nearly gave William Smith a 3-0 lead in the 81st minute. She broke past a defender into the 18-yard box, but had her shot smothered by McLouth.

Laura Burnett-Kurie '08 said. "They took the challenge from the coaching staff and made appropriate adjustments, which resulted in some great moments and attacking options. We are always proud to get the shutout and happy for the effort and focus of our defensive unit."

William Smith will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 19, when it heads to New Paltz for the second game of a six-game road trip. The non-conference contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
