BUENA VISTA, Va.—The William Smith soccer team scored twice in the first half and never looked back as it knocked off Southern Virginia 3-0 in a non-conference contest at Knight Stadium this afternoon. With the win, the Herons improved to 2-0-0 on the year.

Antonia Goerke and sophomore
Sevilla Anderson each played 45 minutes in goal. They combined to make three saves as they earned the shutout.
Chloe Miller played all 90 minutes in goal for the Knights (0-2-0). She made seven saves.
MATCH FACTS
- William Smith finished the game with a 23-7 advantage in shots. The Herons showed their depth with 13 players recording at least one shot.
- William Smith had all six of the game's corner kicks.
FIRST HALF
- The Herons opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game. Junior Lily Pryzwansky put the Herons up 1-0 when she scored on a free kick from 25 yards out. It was her first goal of the season.
- In the 11th minute, Pryzwansky had a chance at a second goal that was stopped by Miller.
- Sophomore Addison Stockwin gave William Smith a two-goal lead in the 15th minute. She fired a shot from 30 yards out over the jumping goalie and into the upper left corner of the cage. It was Stockwin's first collegiate goal.
- The Herons continued to pile on the pressure in the first half. In the 21st minute, junior Kristin Middaugh had a shot taken off the goal line by a defender.
- Miller also had a big save on a shot from Miranda DeMura in the 28th minute.
- William Smith outshot Southern Virginia 10-2 in the opening half.
SECOND HALF
- Just like the first half, the Herons jumped on the Knights right from the whistle.
- Junior Aleena Solano just missed the upper left corner of the cage in the 47th minute.
- A minute later, senior Charlotte Brown buried a shot into the upper left corner of the cage. Her first goal of the season was assisted by first-year Lea Bryant.
- Brown had a chance at a second goal in the 63rd minute, but it was stopped by Miller. She chipped her rebound over the crossbar.
- The Herons had a 13-5 edge in shots in the frame.
COACH'S CORNER
"We are proud of today's performance, with the change in game time and then weather delay, our players showed up focused and ready," Head Coach
Laura Burnett-Kurie '08 said. "We showed our depth and had some quality moments. It was fun for Addie to score her first collegiate goal; Kelsey (Otridge) had a massive game; and it was great to watch Ella (Wirth) control the midfield in the second half — just to name a few."
UP NEXT
William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, Sept. 6, when it heads to Lexington, Virginia, to resume its suspended game against seventh-ranked Washington and Lee. The Herons and Generals played just over 24 minutes on Friday before the game was suspended due to severe weather.
