The Susan Bassett Award is presented to the William Smith student in her junior year for excellence in academics, athletics, and leadership.

Susan Bassett served as director of athletics at William Smith College from 1995 through 2005. Under her leadership, the Herons added three varsity programs: sailing in 1997, squash in 1998 and golf in 2003, and renovated numerous athletic facilities. She began her career at William Smith as the head swimming and diving coach in 1980 and also served as the assistant lacrosse and field hockey coach.
