Herons fall in defensive struggle at #2 Rochester

Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y.--The William Smith basketball team held second-ranked Rochester to a season-low 50 points, but produced a season low 37 points in a 13-point non-conference loss to the Yellowjackets. The set-back evens the Herons record at 3-3, while Rochester improves to 7-0.

William Smith's Erin Cunningham scored a game-high 14 points, while grabbing seven rebounds. Latasha Coney chipped in eight points, a team-high eight rebounds, and a team-high three assists. Paige Myers also contributed eight points. The Herons shot just 25.9 percent from the floor (2-of-23 from long range) and made only half of their 14 free throws.

The Yellowjackets were led by Julie Marriott's 13-point, seven-rebound effort. Rachel Stern and Melissa Alwardt added nine and eight points, respectively. Rochester shot 31.7 percent from the floor (2-of-11 3FGA) and 61.5 percent from the free throw line.

The Yellowjackets broke the only tie of the game (5-5 with 16:01 left in 1st) with nine unanswered points. Rochester led by as many as 11 in the opening stanza, but consecutive buckets by Coney and Cunningham to close the first half scoring got William Smith within six, 24-18 at the half.
