Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y.--The William Smith basketball team harassed Clarkson into 31 turnovers on the way to a 72-67 Liberty League victory tonight. Four Herons hits double digits in the scoring column to up the team's record to 10-7 overall, 4-2 in the conference.
Ashlinn Barber led all scorers with 20 points.
Latasha Coney,
Erin Cunningham, and
Paige Myers contributed 17, 16, and 11 points, respectively. Barber, Coney, and
Mollie Danahy shared team-high honors with seven rebounds apiece. Coney and Danahy were the chief tormentors on defense, notching five steals each.
The host Golden Knights (6-11, 1-5) took a 27-20 lead with 2:16 remaining in the first half, but William Smith rallied. Cunningham (6 pts) and Myers (5 pts) fueled an 11-2 run that sent the Herons into halftime with a 31-29 lead.
Clarkson scored the first four points of the second half to briefly reclaim the lead, but William Smith countered with seven unanswered points to seize the lead for good. An 8-1 run midway through the half gave the Herons their largest lead of the game, 58-46.
The Golden Knights didn't go down without a fight, scoring six straight points late in the contest to trim their deficit to just one, 66-65, with 65 seconds to go. Myers quelled the threat with her third three-pointer of the night and William Smith closed out the victory by making 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
