Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The fourth-ranked William Smith College soccer team tied St. Lawrence 1-1 in double-overtime in a Liberty League match this afternoon on Cozzens Field. The Herons moved to 8-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference, while the Saints now stand at 6-4-3 on the season and 1-2-1 in the Liberty League.
In the 29th minute, St. Lawrence's Elena Rogers put the visitors up 1-0. She moved around a Heron defender and took a shot from about 8 yards out that snuck past a diving William Smith sophomore goalie
Amanda Davis.
The Herons evened the game with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation, as junior
BreLynn Nasypany sent a lead pass up the middle for sophomore
Kate Redmond. Saints' goalkeeper Abby van Geldern came out to challenge, but Redmond came away with the ball and her open shot from about 6 yards in front found the back of the net.
Prior to today, William Smith had won three of its four matches that went into double-overtime this season. Despite out-shooting St. Lawrence 3-0 in extra time, the Herons could not come up with the late-game heroics today.
Overall, William Smith held a 16-13 advantage in shots, including 10-7 on goal, and owned a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Davis finished with six saves, including a clutch stop on a shot by Saint Meg Howard in the final minute of regulation, while van Geldern registered nine saves for St. Lawrence. She came up big in the 48th minute, stopping a point-blank shot by William Smith first-year
Renee Jensen.
