Hot hand carries Ithaca past Hobart

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team shot 50 percent from the floor and put six players in double figures, but it wasn't enough to hold Ithaca down. The Bombers, fueled by a record tying 45-point performance by guard Jordan Marcus, left Bristol Gym with a 108-93 non-conference victory.

Forward Matt Pebole scored a team-high 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting and a 3-for-3 effort at the line for Hobart. Guards Stefan Thompson, Tim Llewellyn, Greg Stern, and Rezin Davis contributed 18, 13, 10, and 10 points, respectively, while forward Adam Salzmann also chipped in 10 points for the Statesmen.

Marcus shot 13 of 19 from the floor, including five threes, and 14-of-16 from the free throw line. He was supported by Sean Rossi's double-double of 16 points and 12 assists, and 10 points from Eli Maravich.

A 9-0 run midway through the first half put Hobart (0-1) in front 28-15 with 9:46 remaining before the half. The Bombers (1-0) countered with a 23-4 run to take a 38-32 lead 4:42 before halftime. Ithaca led 49-41 at the break.

Twice during the first five minutes of the second half, Ithaca stretched its lead to 10, but the Statesmen whittled away at their deficit, claiming a 75-74 lead on a traditional three-point play by Thompson with 10:20 remaining. The Bombers reclaimed the lead for good with a 9-0 run capped by back-to-back threes by Marcus.

Hobart stayed close, trailing by just six with 6:31 remaining, but 9-2 Ithaca run put the Bombers' lead into double digits for good.

Ithaca shot 54.7 percent from the floor, including 64.3 percent in the second half, sank 12 three-pointers, and knocked down 81.3 percent of its free throws.

Hobart is back in action on at 8 p.m. on Nov. 20, when the Statesmen visit Dickinson in the first round of the Pizza Hut Tip-off Tournament.
