Heron soccer to host first, second rounds of NCAA Tournament

William Smith College will host the first and second rounds of the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament this weekend, Nov. 14-15. The ninth-ranked Herons will square off against Simmons College at 11 a.m. on Saturday, followed by 22nd-ranked Ithaca taking on Muhlenberg at 1:30 p.m. The winners will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. to play for a spot in the third round.

All three matches will be broadcast live on WHWS-FM (105.7) and have live stats available at www.HWSAthletics.com. Ticket prices are $6 for general admission, $3 for senior citizens, students, and military personnel with a valid ID, and $2 for children ages 3-12. Children 2 and under are free.

The Herons earned the Liberty League's automatic bid into the 2009 NCAA Tournament after winning their third straight conference championship. William Smith defeated Union 2-0 in the semifinal round on Wednesday, and topped Hamilton 2-0 on Saturday to secure the title. The Herons carry a 13-3-2 overall record into their 23rd consecutive postseason appearance and record 20th NCAA Tournament berth.
