William Smith College will host the first and second rounds of the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament this weekend, Nov. 14-15. The ninth-ranked Herons will square off against Simmons College at 11 a.m. on Saturday, followed by 22nd-ranked Ithaca taking on Muhlenberg at 1:30 p.m. The winners will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. to play for a spot in the third round.
All three matches will be broadcast live on
WHWS-FM (105.7) and have live stats available at www.HWSAthletics.com. Ticket prices are $6 for general admission, $3 for senior citizens, students, and military personnel with a valid ID, and $2 for children ages 3-12. Children 2 and under are free.
The Herons earned the Liberty League's automatic bid into the 2009 NCAA Tournament after winning their third straight conference championship. William Smith defeated Union 2-0 in the semifinal round on Wednesday, and topped Hamilton 2-0 on Saturday to secure the title. The Herons carry a 13-3-2 overall record into their 23rd consecutive postseason appearance and record 20th NCAA Tournament berth.
