Statesmen squash top seed in Conroy Cup

The Hobart College squash team is the top seed in the Conroy Cup, the D Division of the College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championships. The Statesmen, currently ranked 25th in the nation by the CSA, will compete in the championships this weekend, Feb. 20-22, at Princeton.

Hobart will meet 32nd-ranked and eighth-seeded Colgate in the first round on Friday at 5 p.m. The winner will move on to face either Georgetown or Stanford in the semifinal round on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Statesmen will also play a match on Sunday, time and opponent are to be determined.

Hobart has played three of the eight teams vying for the Conroy Cup, posting a 3-0 record against those teams. The Statesmen have defeated The Cardinal 6-3, second-seeded Connecticut College 7-2, and third-seeded Northwestern 5-4 already this winter.

Junior Craig Chircop (The Gow School/Northfield, Ill.) and first-year Kevin Kent (Trinity-Pawling/New York, N.Y.) lead the Statesmen with a team-high seven wins. Chircop owns a 7-6 overall record, splitting time between No. 6 and No. 7, while Kent has posted a 7-9 mark playing at No. 5, No. 6, and No. 7.
