CANTON, N.Y.—The William Smith College tennis team lost to St. Lawrence 5-4, in a hard-fought match this afternoon. The Herons dropped to 6-4 on the season, while the Saints improved to 7-4 overall.
All four of William Smith's victories came in singles action. Heron first-year
Casey Kennedy (Lake Forest Academy/Kenilworth, Ill.) defeated Casey Gilman at No. 3 singles 6-3, 7-6, followed by classmate
Joanie Hilton (Shady Side Academy/Pittsburgh, Pa.) prevailing over Elizabeth Karam at No. 4, 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore
Melissa Slack (Cape Elizabeth/Cape Elizabeth, Maine) took the fifth singles match 7-5, 6-4, over Chelsea Hubbell, while first-year
Jess McCue (Oneonta/Oneonta, N.Y.) downed Paige Cohen 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 to round out William Smith's scoring.
The Herons will be back in action on April 15, when they host Geneseo at 4 p.m.
