GENEVA, N.Y.—The St. Lawrence men's soccer team scored 5 minutes, 56 seconds into the second overtime period to edge Hobart 1-0 in a Liberty League game played at Cozzens Field this afternoon. St. Lawrence improves to 12-2-2 overall and 4-0-1 in league play, while the Statesmen are now 6-6-3 and 0-4-1 in the Liberty League.
Junior Dan Marvin scored his fourth goal of the season to give the Saints the win. First year Andrew Bednarsky sent a pass back to Marvin who fired a shot from the top of the box. He put the ball into the left side of the goal, just out of reach of junior goalie
Charlie Hale.
St. Lawrence held a 24-9 advantage in shots. Hobart held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Hale finished with seven saves in goal for the Statesmen including three in overtime. Sophomore goalie Nate Goss-Woliner finished with two saves.
The Saints had a chance to break the scoreless tie with 15:29 remaining in regulation. Junior Brendan Gorman fired a shot that junior
Lukas Petersen was able to save from going into the goal. Hobart also had an opportunity to score late in the second half. With 46 seconds left, Hobart secured a corner kick, but was unable to capitalize.
Early in the second overtime, Gorman recorded two shots on goal, but Hale was there to make the saves. The Statesmen also had a chance to score in the 104th minute, when first-year Shayan Mosavi fired a shot on goal, but Goss-Woliner secured the save.
Prior to the start of the game, the Statesmen Athletic Association and Hobart Athletics Department honored the 1960 Hobart soccer team with the title of a Team of Distinction.
Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 24, when the Statesmen host Clarkson for a Liberty League contest at 1 p.m.
