Box Score Box Score

LEWISBURG, Pa.—
Hobart played 20th-ranked Bucknell even through the first two quarters, but the Bison outscored the Statesmen 4-1 in the pivotal third quarter en route to a 9-7 victory. Hobart dominated the faceoff X, but turnovers and penalties hampered the Statesmen's hopes for an upset.

Hobart sophomore Bobby Dattilo, who entered the game 12th in the nation in faceoff winning percentage, out dueled Bucknell's Jake Clarke (18th), winning 14 of the day's 20 faceoffs. Dattilo also scooped up six ground balls, while junior Alex Caton collected a game-high seven.

Clarke grabbed a team-high six ground balls, helping the Bison (3-2) to a 31-28 overall edge.

Senior Kevin Curtin and sophomore Chris Pedersen led the Hobart attack with three points apiece, while seniors Mike Lazore and Doug Shiver added two goals each.

Charlie Streep and Austin Winter produced four points apiece to pace Bucknell.

In goal, Max Silberlicht made 13 saves for the Statesmen, while Kyle Feeney turned back 11 stops for the Bison.

The game turned on turnovers and penalties. Hobart (1-2) committed a season-high 22 turnovers, eight more than their host. The Statesmen were flagged for seven penalties for six minutes, while the Bison were tagged just twice for 90 seconds. Hobart was 0-for-2 with the extra man, while Bucknell went 3-for-5.

Less than three minutes into the game, Lazore opened the game's scoring, splitting a pair of defenders in the right alley and depositing a shot in the upper left corner of the cage. The Bison struck back with consecutive tallies to take a 2-1 lead.

Shiver even the game at 2-all, finishing a feed from Pedersen with 3:33 left in the first quarter. Two minutes into the second quarter, Pedersen again assisted on a Hobart goal, this time senior Tyler Cassell laced a high-to-low shot to give the Statesmen a 3-2 edge.

The Statesmen were flagged for the first time with 2:06 left in the half and 27 seconds later, Mike Danylyshyn tied the game with an extra-man tally.

Four minutes and 15 seconds into the second half, Bucknell took the lead for good when Streep scored an extra-man goal off an assist from Winter. Just over two minutes later, Winter scored a goal of his own to give the Bison a two-goal cushion.

Midway through the third quarter, Pedersen set up his third straight Hobart goal, drawing a double team and finding a wide open Lazore, to make it a 5-4 game. Bucknell countered with back-to-back scores 1:21 apart to carry a 7-4 lead into the fourth quarter.

Three times the Statesmen trimmed their deficit to two, but the visitors could get no closer. Curtin had a hand in all three scores, setting up first-year Tyler Simmons' first career goal, scoring one himself, and then assisting on Shiver's final strike.

Hobart will begin a three-game homestand when the Binghamton Bearcats visit McCooey Field on March 16. Faceoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
