Match Scores

GENEVA, N.Y.—
The William Smith tennis team upset previously unbeaten St. Lawrence 5-4 today in Bristol Field House. The Herons, ranked 27th in the ITA Northeast Region, improved to 6-1, while the Saints, 19th in the region, fall to 8-1.

St. Lawrence came out of doubles action with a 2-1 lead. The Saints top two tandems prevailed over their William Smith counterparts. The Herons' third doubles pairing of Remy Raevsky and Katie Serock gutted out a 9-8 triumph over Elizabeth Geer and Elizabeth Ronty 9-8.

The second through fifth singles matches were decided in straight sets. William Smith's Casey Kennedy (6-4, 6-1), Joanie Hilton (6-0, 6-0), and Melissa Slack (6-3, 6-2) won at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 respectively, while Geer was victorious 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5.

With the first and sixth singles matches heading to a third set, the Herons needed just one victory to secure the match. Raevsky took the drama out of the wait. After dropping the first set 6-1, she rallied for a 6-4 win in the second and cruised to a 6-0 win in the final set.

With the match already decided, Finn took the Saints' final point, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

St. Lawrence will be back in action in Bristol Field House at 9:30 a.m. on March 27, when they take on the College of New Jersey. The Herons will also play the Lions on Saturday. That match is slated for a 2 p.m. start. TCNJ is ranked seventh in the region, 23rd in the nation.
