Box Score

GENEVA, N.Y.—Senior Tommy Hayes scored back-to-back goals to lead the No. 15 Hobart soccer team to a 4-1 win over Bard in a Liberty League match played this afternoon on Boswell Field at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation. The Statesmen improve to 12-2-0 overall and 3-2-0 in league play.

The Raptors fall to 3-10-0 and remain winless in conference play. The first ever meeting between Bard and Hobart was originally scheduled to be played on Cozzens Field, but heavy rains hit Geneva this afternoon, forcing the location change.

The Statesmen got on the scoreboard first just 38 seconds into the contest. Senior Tony Yeboah had a scoring chance, but the ball ended up going off a Bard player and into the goal. Hayes scored his first goal of the game 5:32 in to make it 2-0. He drilled home a shot from 18 yards out. Hayes struck again in the 18th minute. This time junior Caetano Sanchez set up the play, lobbing a short pass to Hayes who sent a header into the back of the net. Hayes now leads the team with four goals and nine points this fall.

In the 24th minute, first-year Kyle Herod made it 3-0 with his second goal this season. Sophomore Eli Vitale booted a short pass in front of the goal mouth to Herod whose header redirected the ball past the Raptor's keeper.

Bard broke through in the 55th minute. Senior Jacob Hartog broke away from the Hobart defense for a one-on-one with the Statesmen's keeper, senior Alex Witherell. Hartog was able to put a shot just out of his reach to make it 4-1.

Witherell played 59:57 and stopped two shots. First-year Michael Lucas came in to play the final 30:03 and did not need to make a save. Senior Devin Connelly played all 90 minutes in goal for the Raptors and finished with seven stops.

Hobart enjoyed a 24-5 advantage in shots. The Statesmen earned 10 corner kicks, and Bard did not have any in the game.

Hobart will be back in action tomorrow Oct. 15, when the Statesmen host Vassar for anther Liberty League match beginning at 2 p.m.
