Statesmen defeat Drexel, fall to George Washington

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—
The Hobart College squash team split two matches in the final day of the 2011 Navy Round Robin. The Statesmen defeated Drexel 7-2 this morning, and then fell to George Washington 9-0 this afternoon.

Hobart (3-2) earned wins at 2-7 against the Dragons. Junior Daniel Pelaez posted an 11-3, 11-2, 11-5 win at No. 2. First-year McGee O'Neil followed with an 11-9, 11-4, 11-3 victory at No. 3. At No. 4, Edgardo Gonzalez rallied for a 9-11, 11-7, 12-10, 11-6 win. Senior Kevin Kent cruised to an 11-3, 11-4, 11-1 win at No. 5, and sophomore William Boyle defeated Matt Schaeffeer 11-4, 11-9, 11-3 at No. 6.

Senior Grant Bercari also rallied after dropping his first two games for a victory at No. 7 (6-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-3). At No. 9, junior Eric DeRose topped Drexel's Paul Jamrogowicz 11-7, 11-9, 11-6.

Against George Washington, first-year Cesar Peralta was the only Hobart player to win a game falling 3-1 at No. 8.

The Statesmen will be back in action Nov. 19-20 when they play in the Liberty League Championship tournament in Canton, N.Y. Hobart will take on St. Lawrence and Bard on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m., respectively.
