CANTON, N.Y.—The Hobart squash team split two matches in its first day of competition at the 2011 Liberty League Championship Tournament. The Statesmen fell to No. 12 St. Lawrence 9-0 in their first match and topped Bard 9-0 to finish the afternoon.
Hobart is now 4-3 this season. The Statesmen will take on Vassar tomorrow, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m., and then will wrap up the league championship tournament with a match against Rochester at 1 p.m.
In the win over Bard, senior
Corey Kabot led Hobart with an 11-3, 11-3, 11-7 victory over Dylan Coburn at the top spot. Junior
Daniel Pelaez breezed to an 11-0, 11-1, 11-0 victory at No. 2. First-year
McGee O'Neil posted an 11-1, 11-5, 11-3 triumph at No. 3.

Edgardo Gonzalez topped his Raptor opponent 11-3, 11-0, 11-0 at No. 4, and senior
Kevin Kent logged an 11-1, 11-2, 11-6 victory at No. 5. Sophomore
William Boyle topped David Gookin 11-3, 11-1, 11-1 at No. 6. The Statesmen won by forfeit at the final three spots.
Against the Saints, each of the Statesmen fell in three games.
