Statesmen split on Day 1 of Liberty League Tournament

CANTON, N.Y.—
The Hobart squash team split two matches in its first day of competition at the 2011 Liberty League Championship Tournament. The Statesmen fell to No. 12 St. Lawrence 9-0 in their first match and topped Bard 9-0 to finish the afternoon.

Hobart is now 4-3 this season. The Statesmen will take on Vassar tomorrow, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m., and then will wrap up the league championship tournament with a match against Rochester at 1 p.m.

In the win over Bard, senior Corey Kabot led Hobart with an 11-3, 11-3, 11-7 victory over Dylan Coburn at the top spot. Junior Daniel Pelaez breezed to an 11-0, 11-1, 11-0 victory at No. 2. First-year McGee O'Neil posted an 11-1, 11-5, 11-3 triumph at No. 3.

Junior Edgardo Gonzalez topped his Raptor opponent 11-3, 11-0, 11-0 at No. 4, and senior Kevin Kent logged an 11-1, 11-2, 11-6 victory at No. 5. Sophomore William Boyle topped David Gookin 11-3, 11-1, 11-1 at No. 6. The Statesmen won by forfeit at the final three spots.

Against the Saints, each of the Statesmen fell in three games.
