GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College squash team began the 2011-12 season with an 8-1 win over Colgate in a match played this afternoon at the Smith Squash Center. It also marked the season-opener for the Raiders.
Senior
Kevin Kent picked up the first Statesmen win of the day with a 13-11, 11-4, 11-4 win at the No. 4 spot. Junior
Eric DeRose then earned a victory at No. 6, when his Raider opponent was forced to retire. First-year
Cesar Peralta recorded his first collegiate win, topping Colgate's Jake Gregory 8-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-6.
Junior
Daniel Pelaez was next to post a win. He defeated Sam Brenman 7-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-7 at No. 2. Sophomore Will Boyle ensured the Hobart victory, cruising to an 11-7, 11-3, 11-5 win at No. 7. Junior
Edgardo Gonzalez put the Statesmen up 6-0. After dropping his first game 8-11 to Steve Carey, he rallied to win 12-10, 11-9, 12-10. Seniors
Corey Kabot and
Grant Bercari earned two more wins for Hobart. Kabot triumphed at the top spot, 11-9, 11-7, 11-4. Bercari logged an 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 victory at No. 5.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 12, when they take on Denison in the first match of the 2011 Navy Round Robin at 11 a.m. Hobart will then play host Navy at 4 p.m.
