Fast start leads Buckeyes by Statesmen 11-4

COLUMBUS, Ohio—
Ohio State scored the first six goals of its ECAC Lacrosse League showdown with Hobart this afternoon on its way to an 11-4 victory. The Buckeyes improve to 6-5 overall, 1-1 in the ECAC, while the Statesmen slip to 4-6, 1-2.

On a day when OSU honored its 12 seniors, sophomore attackman Logan Schuss stole the spotlight, scoring four goals and assisting on three more. Sophomore attackman Jeff Tundo added three goals and an assist, while sophomore midfielder Dominique Alexander and senior midfielder Scott Lathrop added two goals each.

In goal, the Buckeyes' Greg Dutton earned the win with 12 saves on 15 shots in the first 56:36. 

Senior attackman Sam Miller, senior midfielder Mike White, first-year attackman Alex Love, and first-year attackman Kyle Lusted netted the goals for Hobart. Junior midfielder Bobby Dattilo won 9-of-17 faceoffs and scooped up a game-high seven ground balls.

Statesmen goalies Evan Kirk and Jon Lawless combined to make nine saves.

Schuss opened the scoring, off an assist from Tundo, just 58 seconds into the game. He scored again less than four minutes later and then assisted on Tundo's first goal just two minutes after that. Tundo made it 4-0 at the 7:02 mark. Schuss and Lathrop scored in succession just eight seconds apart to give Ohio State a 6-0 lead with 4:04 left in the first quarter.

Love got the Statesmen on the board with an extra-man goal 27 seconds before the end of the frame.

The Buckeyes scored the only two goals of the second quarter to carry an 8-1 lead into halftime. OSU outshot Hobart 21-7 (34-29 overall) and had a 17-13 edge in ground balls (31-25) in the first 30 minutes.

The home team stretched its lead to 9-1 with the first strike of the third quarter, but White and Miller countered to make it a 9-3 game. The latter's goal extended his point scoring streak to 20 games.

Ohio State got both goals back by the 8:44 mark of the fourth quarter.

With his first collegiate goal, Lusted closed out the day's scoring with just eight second left. Classmate Jake McHenry earned the assist for his first collegiate point.

Hobart will return to Boswell Field for its final home game of the season. The Statesmen will host Bellarmine on Saturday, April 16. The televised game is scheduled to begin at 7:07 p.m.
