Statesmen to compete in CSA Team Championships

The Hobart College squash team will compete in the 2012 College Squash Association Team Championships this weekend, Feb. 17-19. The Statesmen, who are ranked No. 26 in the most recent College Squash Association rankings, are the No. 2 seed in the D Division and will be playing for the Conroy Cup.

There will be 63 teams participating in eight divisions. Matches will be played at Princeton University, Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J., the University of Pennsylvania and at Squash Smarts in Philadelphia. Hobart will begin its quest for the Conroy Cup taking on No. 31 Colgate on Friday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m. at the Lawrenceville School. Tufts, MIT, Georgetown, Drexel, Johns Hopkins and Northeastern make up the rest of the D Division.

The Statesmen bring a 10-18 overall record into this year's CSA Team Championships.  Senior Grant Bercari junior Edgardo Gonzalez and sophomore William Boyle share a team-high with 12 wins each this season. Senior Kevin Kent and junior Daniel Pelaez have each tallied 11 victories.

Last year Hobart finished in second place in the D Division. The Statesmen edged Northeastern 5-4 in their first match, and then cruised to an 8-1 victory over Georgetown for a spot in the finals. Connecticut College slid past the Statesmen 5-4 to take home the Conroy Cup.

On Saturday, Feb. 18, the Statesmen will take on either No. 27 Johns Hopkins or No. 30 Northeastern in its second round match.
