Statesmen ground Raptors 62-45

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team committed just two turnovers, both in the latter stages of the second half, on its way to a 62-45 Liberty League win over Bard College in Bristol Gym tonight. Junior forward Richie Bonney paced the Statesmen with 17 points and eight rebounds.
 
Hobart (10-6, 6-1) shot just 40.4 percent from the floor, but controlled the boards (31-22) and finished plus-nine in turnover margin. The Statesmen also made 16-of-24 free throws. Bonney was joined in double figures by sophomore guard Connor Rehbaum, who produced 11 points. Senior forward Sean Peer made a strong bid for a double-double, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Stefan Thompson added nine points and six assists.
 
Bard (4-12, 1-8) shot 46.3 percent from the field, but earned only eight trips to the line and made just four. Sophomore forward Siondueh Burnette scored a game-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting. He also grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Sophomore guard Chris McNaughton added nine points.
 
The Statesmen scored nine unanswered points to build a 12-point lead by the halfway point of the first half. Senior guard Rezin Davis scored all five of his points during the run. A 13-5 run to close out the first half sent Hobart into the locker room with a 37-20 advantage.
 
By the 12:30 mark of the second half, the Statesmen had stretched their lead to a game-high 22 points, but, with its reserves on the floor, Hobart went scoreless over the next six minutes allowing the Raptors to cut their deficit in half. Bonney made a pair of free throws at the 6:17 mark to wake the first-place Statesmen out of their slumber.
 
Hobart outscored the visitors 8-4 down the stretch.
 
The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 26, when they host Vassar (5-11, 1-6) at 4 p.m. The Raptors will play at the same time at RIT (5-11, 1-6). The Brewers lost to the Tigers 62-53 tonight.
