The Hobart College squash team split two matches today in the second day of the Navy Veterans Weekend Round Robin in Annapolis, Md. The Statesmen topped Georgetown 8-1, but fell 6-3 to George Washington.
In their first match of the day, junior
Billy Abrams led the Statesmen with a 13-11, 11-8, 11-3 win at the top spot. First-year
Felipe Pantle defeated his competition 11-6, 11-4, 7-11, 11-5 at No. 2 and junior
McGee O'Neil notched an 11-7, 11-7, 11-3 win at No. 5. First-year
Beau Orchard logged an 11-3, 11-4, 11-4 victory at No. 6. Classmates
Art Martella and
Scott Marcus earned 3-0 victories at No. 7 (11-2, 11-7, 11-5) and No. 8 (11-4, 11-8, 11-7), respectively. First-year
Krittapat Pranich earned an 11-0, 11-1, 11-6 win at No. 9.
Against George Washington, Orchard tallied his second win of the day this time topping his opponent 11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-9 at No. 6. Marcus chipped in an 11-9, 11-4, 11-6 win at No. 8, and Pranich posted an 11-5, 11-7, 11-6 victory at No. 9.
The Statesmen (1-3) will be back in action on Nov. 23-24, when they compete in the 2013 Liberty League Men's Squash Championship in Canton, N.Y. Hobart will take on Rochester and St. Lawrence on Saturday and then face Vassar and Bard on Sunday.
