Camels slip by Statesmen 5-4

Results

The Hobart College squash team came within a single point of upsetting 23rd ranked Connecticut College in the Smith Squash Center this evening. The Camels got a 3-1 victory at No. 7 to stave off the Statesmen 5-4.

CC jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a 3-0 win at No. 3 and a 3-1 triumph at No. 6, but Hobart responded with three straight wins. Art Martella started the streak, overcoming a two game deficit to win 3-2 (8-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-7). Billy Abrams followed with a 3-0 victory at No. 2 and McGee O'Neil put the Statesmen ahead with another 3-2 win (11-6, 9-11, 11-4, 6-11, 11-2).

The Camels (3-2) moved within a point of claiming the match thanks to a 3-1 win at No. 8 and a 3-0 victory at No. 1. Justin Curtis secured the clinching point for Connecticut College, winning No. 7 over Scott Marcus 8-11, 11-4, 13-11, 11-4.

Beau Orchard prevailed 3-1 at No. 4 for the Statesmen (3-7) to complete the match.

Hobart will be back in action on Jan. 15, 2014, when the Statesmen visit Stanford. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. (7 p.m. EST).
