The Hobart College squash team cruised to two 9-0 wins today at the Smith Squash Center. The Statesmen, who are ranked No. 31 in the most recent College Squash Association rankings, blanked No. 35 Boston University and No. 37 Colgate and are now 8-13 overall.
Against the Terriers, senior
William Boyle rallied for a 6-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7 win at the top spot. Sophomore
McGee O'Neil notched an 11-2, 11-6,11-4 victory at No. 2. Senior
Edgardo Gonzalez cruised to an 11-5, 11-4, 11-2 triumph at the No. 3 spot, and classmate
Julian Snider recorded an 11-3, 13-11, 11-2 win at No. 4.
First-year
Danny Cabrera defeated his competition 11-9, 11-7, 11-8 at No. 5, and first-year
Peter Sammis logged an 11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8 win at No. 6. First-year
Michael Woods picked up an 11-8, 11-6, 11-2 win at No. 7, and senior
Eric DeRose registered a 12-10, 11-7, 11-5 victory at No. 8. Senior
Charlie Merrill downed his opponent 11-2, 11-1, 11-0 at the No. 9 spot.
In their second match of the day, Boyle topped his Raider opponent 13-11, 12-10, 10-12, 11-3 at the No. 1 spot. O'Neil earned a 3-0 victory at No. 2 (11-3, 11-5, 11-1) and Gonzalez cruised to a 11-9, 11-2, 11-5 win at No. 3. At No. 4, Snider rallied for an 8-11, 11-5, 11-3, 11-4 triumph. Cabrera logged an 11-8, 11-4, 11-4 win at No. 5, and classmate Sammis won 11-5, 11-4, 11-2 at No. 6. At No. 7, Woods notched an 11-7, 11-2, 11-0 victory, and DeRose defeated his opponent 11-5, 11-4, 11-4 at No. 8. Merrill secured the sweep with an 11-9, 11-4, 11-7 win at No. 9.
The Statesmen will be back in action Feb. 22-24, when they compete in the CSA Team Championships.
