Blue grass stakes: Statesmen face Knights in key ECAC contest

Game Notes | WEOS-FM | Live Stats | Live Video

The Hobart College lacrosse team will travel to Bellarmine University for a key ECAC Lacrosse League game on Saturday, April 13. The opening faceoff at the Knights' Owsley B. Frazier Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Both Hobart (4-6, 1-3) and Bellarmine (7-3, 3-3) need a win today to stay in the hunt for a spot in the four-team ECAC Lacrosse League tournament. Last season, the fourth seed, Denver, secured a berth with a 3-3 record. This year, a 4-3 mark is likely needed to earn a bid. The Statesmen lead the young series 2-1, including last season's 14-13 win in Louisville.

Hobart's starting attack, juniors Alex Love, Cam Stone, and Jake McHenry, has accounted for 63 percent of the team's 145 points this season. Love is second in the nation in goals per game (3.2) and boasts a team-high 38 points. Stone is the ECAC leader in assists per game (2.3) and is just two points behind Love. McHenry has added 15 goals and two assists.

On defense, senior Reid Rosello has a team-high 19 caused turnovers. He set the Hobart season record last season with 20. In goal, junior Peter Zonino has played well the past two weeks against then No. 4 Denver and then No. 15 Ohio State. He recorded a combined 28 saves for a .538 save percentage.

The Knights are coming off a heartbreaking 11-10 double overtime loss at Denver. Senior goalie Dillon Ward made a season-high 20 saves against the Pioneers. He leads the nation in save percentage (.697) and ranks third in goals against average (6.87). BU leads the ECAC and ranks third in the nation in scoring defense (7.3 gpg) and is second in the conference and 15th in the nation in caused turnovers (8.4/g).

Bellarmine boasts four players that have 25 points or more this season. Senior Karsen Leung leads the pack with 10 goals and a team-high 20 assists for 30 points. Junior midfielder Cameron Gardner has a team-high 22 goals.

WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva) will carry the game live. Veteran broadcaster Ted Baker will describe all of the action.
