Bonney's 21 leads Hobart over Skidmore 58-47

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—Senior forward Richie Bonney scored a game-high 21 points, grabbed nine rebounds, handed out three assists, and recorded three steals without a turnover to lead the Hobart College basketball team to a 68-57 Liberty League victory over Skidmore College in Bristol Gym tonight.

Bonney was 7-of-12 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the line. He was joined in double digits by senior guard Joe Gibbons, who finished with 10 points. Junior guard Andrew Hoy matched Bonney's nine rebounds to share game-high honors and chipped in five points and a game-high five assists. Junior guard Connor Rehbaum contributed eight points and seven boards.

Connor Merrill was the only Thoroughbred to reach double figures, scoring 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting.

Hobart built a 29-17 halftime lead with a suffocating defensive effort. The Statesmen limited Skidmore to just 23.3 percent shooting (7-30), including 0-for-7 from beyond the arc. Hobart took control of the half with eight straight points midway through. Junior guard Trey Blanding scored four points during the surge, including two at the foul line, where Hobart finished the night with a decisive advantage. The Statesmen were 22-of-34 at the line, while the Thoroughbreds managed just 14 trips to the stripe with nine makes.

Hobart used a 17-6 run to start the second half to blow the game wide open. Gibbons had six points in the first six minutes of the half, while Rehbaum added five. The Statesmen lead reached its peak with 11:23 remaining when Bonney sank a pair of freebies for a 51-27 lead. 

Hobart was able to send all 12 of its healthy players into the game for at least three minutes, with nine Statesmen cracking the scoring column.

Skidmore made the game a little closer with an 8-0 run in the final two minutes against the Hobart reserves.

The Statesmen, who won for the fourth straight time, improved to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference. The Thoroughbreds slip to 9-6, 3-3.
