The Hobart College squash team dropped two matches on day 2 of the 2014 Yale Round Robin. The Statesmen were edged 5-4 by No. 25 Connecticut College and fell 8-1 to No. 19 Bowdoin this afternoon.
Hobart, who is ranked No. 28 in the most recent College Squash Association rankings, is now 4-10 overall.
In their first match of the day against the Camels, the Statesmen were up 2-1 after the first three matches. First-year
Beau Orchard topped his competition at No. 3 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 and classmate
Art Martella earned a 4-11, 11-2, 9-11, 13-11, 11-4 victory after being down match point in game four at No. 9. Sophomore
Danny Cabrera notched an 11-7, 11-8, 11-6 win at No. 5 for Hobart's third win. Connecticut College picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 8 to tie the match up at 3-3, and then the Camels took a 4-3 lead with a victory at No. 4. Junior
Billy Abrams triumphed 11-4, 11-8, 11-8 at the top spot to tie things up again, but the Camels posted a win at No. 7 to clinch the overall victory.
Against the Polar Bears, Orchard earned Hobart's lone win in four games at the No. 3 spot.
The Statesmen will play their final match of the Yale Round Robin tomorrow, Jan. 26, when they take on Boston College at 10 a.m.
