Statesmen to host Navy for final home match of season

The Hobart College squash team will host Navy on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. at the Smith Squash Center for its final home match of the 2013-14 season. The Statesmen were originally scheduled to play Colgate on Saturday and Boston University on Sunday, Feb. 2, however both teams have backed out of their agreements to come to Geneva.

Saturday's match will be the final home match for Hobart's senior captain William Boyle and junior Billy Abrams. Going into the weekend, Boyle has played in 75 career matches over four years on the Hobart squash team. He has registered 34 career victories. Abrams, who transferred to Hobart last spring and is a senior academically, has posted a 6-6 overall record. He has logged a 4-5 mark at the No. 1 spot and gone 2-1 at No. 2 this season.

First-year Art Martella leads the Statesmen with nine victories this year. He has posted a 9-6 overall record, including a 4-2 mark at the No. 9 spot. First-year Beau Orchard has added eight wins this year, including 3-2 marks at No. 3 and No. 4.

Hobart, which is ranked No. 28 in the most recent College Squash Association rankings, is 5-10 overall. No. 14 Navy brings a 13-4 overall record into the weekend, and will travel to play at Cornell on Friday night.

After taking on Navy on Saturday, the Statesmen will travel to play Cornell on Friday, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m., before competing in the CSA Championships Feb. 14-16.
