POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Hobart College squash team split its weekend matches at the 2014 Liberty League Championships hosted by Vassar College. The Statesmen defeated Bard 9-0 and Vassar 8-1 on Sunday for their two weekend victories.

Hobart started the Liberty League tournament on Saturday, Nov. 23, against Rochester. The Yellowjackets knocked off the Statesmen 8-1. First-year
Jack Shannon notched the lone victory for the Statesmen defeating his Rochester opponent 11-5, 11-5, 10-12, 12-10. Hobart also played St. Lawrence on Saturday losing 9-0. First-years
Greg Dolente and
Divine Wing put up strong fights at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots respectively.

Against the Raptors, Hobart recorded 3-0 victories at the No. 1 through No.5 spots. Sophomores
Felipe Pantle and
Beau Orchard won their matches at No. 1 (11-5, 11-7, 11-5) and No. 2 (11-1, 11-2, 11-1), respectively. Dolente, Wing and fellow first-year
James Pierpont each won easily. Dolente recorded an 11-3, 11-0, 11-2 win at No. 3, Wing knocked off his opponent 11-1, 11-3, 11-2, and Pierpont dispatched his opponent 11-2, 11-2, 11-1. Hobart won at No. 6-No.9 by default.

Against the Brewers, the Statesmen notched victories at the No. 2- No. 9 spots.  Orchard bested his Vassar opponent at No.2 (11-1, 11-5, 11-5 ) and Dolente won at No. 3 (11-4, 11-0, 11-2). Wing won at No. 4 (11-6, 11-1, 11-4) while classmate Pierpont won at No. 5 (11-5, 11-3, 11-4). Shannon topped his opponent at No. 6 (11-4, 11-2, 11-3) and junior
Danny Cabrera beat his Brewer adversary at No. 7 (11-5, 11-6, 11-3). Sophomore
Scott Marcus and Senior
McGee O'Neill won 11-4, 11-0, 11-5 and 11-2, 11-0, 11-1 respectively.

The Statesmen will complete 2014 on Saturday, Dec. 6, when they host Colgate and Bucknell for a pair of matches at the Smith Squash Center. Hobart's match with Colgate is slated to begin at 11 a.m. and its match against Bucknell is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
