Hobart to compete for Summers Cup this weekend

The Hobart College squash team returns to action this weekend, Feb. 20-22, for the 2015 College Squash Association Championships. The Statesmen will compete for the Summers Cup.
 
There will be 62 teams competing in eight divisions. Matches will be played at Trinity College, Wesleyan University, Loomis Chaffee and Choate Rosemary Hall.
 
 Hobart, who is ranked No. 22 in the most recent College Squash Association Team Rankings, brings an 11-8 record into the championships. The Statesmen will face No. 19 Western Ontario in their first match on Friday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. at Wesleyan. On Saturday, Hobart will face either No. 18 Brown or No. 23 Bowdoin, also at Wesleyan. Middlebury, Amherst, Colby and Wesleyan round out the Summers Cup field.
 
First-year Jack Shannon leads the Statesmen with 10 victories this season. He is 10-7 overall with a 4-3 record at the No. 5 spot. First-years Divine Wing and James Pierpont and junior Danny Cabrera each have nine wins. Wing and Cabrera are 9-8 overall while Pierpont is 9-9 overall this season. Wing owns a 5-2 record at the No. 4 spot, Pierpont is 4-2 at No. 5 and Cabrera is 4-4 at No. 8.
 
Hobart is looking to take home its first team championship since winning the Conroy Cup in 2012. The Statesmen won the Summers Cup in 1990.
