ITHACA, N.Y. – The William Smith College tennis team was edged by Ithaca 5-4 in a match contested inside of Glazer Arena this evening. First-year
Michaelann Denton won both of her matches to lead the Herons. William Smith falls to 7-8 overall while the Bombers improve to 13-8.
Ithaca took a 2-1 lead, winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Denton and junior
Sydney Arsenault teamed up at No. 2, emerging victorious 9-8 (7-5).
The Herons and Bombers traded wins in the first four singles matches. Ithaca clinched the overall team win at No. 5 singles. Denton extended her winning streak to 14 matches, beating Allison Vizgaitis, 7-6 (7-0), 6-0, at No. 3. Denton is 16-2 overall this spring, including 5-0 at No. 3. Senior
Haley Wolf tied the match at three, notching a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.
Alex Cattie closed out the match with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 victory at No. 6. Wolf and Cattie are on four match win streaks.
William Smith will be back on the in action Saturday, April 25, when it takes on Bard. The Liberty League match in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
