The 19th-ranked William Smith College field hockey team finished the regular season with a 12-5 overall record and a 5-1 mark in Liberty League play. With a 3-0 win over then No. 14 Skidmore on Oct. 23, the Herons clinched the Liberty League tournament's No. 1 seed and will have home field advantage throughout.

In the semifinals, William Smith will host Rochester at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, under the lights of McCooey Field. Rochester is the tournament's No. 4 seed after posting a 16-3 overall record and a 4-2 mark in conference play. The Yellowjackets fell to the four seed after the conference tiebreakers played out. The other semifinal will pit second seeded Vassar (14-3, 4-2) against third-seeded Skidmore (13-5, 4-2). The Brewers were awarded the No. 2 seed and semifinal hosting rites by virtue of their head-to-head wins over Rochester and the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore beat the Yellowjackets to claim the third seed. Vassar and Skidmore will play in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., also at 6 p.m.

Maura Moran leads the team with 11 assists and is second on the team with 12 goals and 35 points. Wood leads the league and is fifth in the nation in goals per game (1.35) and points per game (3.0). Moran is second in conference and 16th in the nation in assists per game (0.65). As a unit, the Herons offense leads the Liberty League in goals per game (3.82), assists per game (2.59), and points per game (10.24). William Smith is ninth in the nation in assists per game and 10th in points per game. Biz Chirco has started 16 games for the Herons and owns a 1.67 goals against average and a .704 save percentage. She has two shutouts and is 11-5 on the season.

Rochester is led offensively by Callie Fisher's 13 goals and 31 points. Claire Dickerson is right behind her with 11 goals. Midfielder Sayaka Abe is the Yellowjackets' playmaker, she finished the regular season with a team and Liberty League leading 15 assists. Abe is sixth in the nation in assists per game (0.79). Gabrielle Cantley and Kiran Sundaram have split time in goal for Rochester. Cantley has started all 19 games and is 11-0 on the season. She owns a 0.75 goals against average and a .588 save percentage. Sundaram is 5-3 on the season with a 0.99 goals against average and a .710 save percentage.
