The Hobart College squash team dropped a pair of matches to close out its regular season today. The Statesmen fell to Bates 6-3 at the Smith Squash Center this morning before falling to Cornell 8-1 in Ithaca this afternoon.

Hobart, who completes the regular season with a 7-12 record, is currently ranked No. 23 in the latest College Squash Team Rankings. In their first match of the day, the Statesmen took on No. 17 Bates. The teams were tied 2-2 through the first four matches. Sophomore

Ilyas Khan rallied to win his match at the No. 4 spot. His opponent, Anirudh Nambiar, won the first two games, 11-8, 11-3. Khan took the next three games, 13-11, 11-9, 11-1. Sophomore

Danny Cabrera went to five games at No. 8 before losing to Spencer Burt, 9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7. In the top spot, the Bobcats' Ahmed Abdel Khalek, the reigning individual national champion, won his 59th consecutive match, defeating
Josh Oakley, 11-3, 11-1, 11-1.

This afternoon, the Statesmen made the trip down the lake to face the No. 12 Big Red at the Belkin International Squash Courts. Cabrera collected the lone win for Hobart at No. 8. He defeated Geoff Keating, 11-9, 11-7, 5-11, 4-11, 11-9. Cornell won 3-0 at Nos. 2-7 and No. 9 respectively. Oakley fell 3-1 in the top spot.

Hobart will be back in action next weekend, Feb. 19-21, in New Haven, Conn., at the CSA Team Championships.Â
