NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Hobart College squash team was edged by Colby 5-4 in the consolation semifinals of the Summers Cup at the 2016 Team National Championships.

The Mules (12-8) jumped out to a 4-1 lead with wins at No. 2, 3, 8 and 9. C. J. Smith and Matt Epstein collected 3-0 wins at the No. 2 and 8 spots respectively. Gregory Ho collected a 3-1 win at the No. 9 position.

Hobart (7-14) got wins from first-years
Josh Oakley, and
Ilyas Khan, junior
Terrance Rose, and sophomore
Jack Shannon at Nos. 1, 4, 5, and 6 respectively. Oakley, who has played every match this season at No. 1, posted an 11-6, 11-7, 11- 6 victory over Colby's Will McBrian in the top spot. Khan won 11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 7-11, 11-3 at No. 4. Rose emerged victorious 3-1 over Patrick McCarthy at No. 4 for the Statesmen. Shannon squeaked out a 3-2 win over Hugh Doherty at No. 6.

Andrew Swapp clinched the match for Colby with 3-1 win at No. 7.

Hobart will conclude its season tomorrow against Bowdoin. The Polar Bears beat the Statesmen 5-4 in Middletown, Conn. In January. Tomorrow's match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Choate Rosemary Hall.
