STAMFORD, Conn. – Hobart College first-year
Josh Oakley reached the consolation final of the Molloy C Division in the College Squash Association Individual Championships at The Squash Club at Chelsea Piers this weekend.
Oakley opened the tournament with a match against the University of Pennsylvania's James Watson on Friday afternoon. Watson advanced to the quarterfinals with an 11-5, 11-2, 11-2 win.
On Saturday, in the consolation quarterfinals, Oakley was paired against Bowdoin's Ian Squiers. For the third time this season, Oakley bested the Polar Bears No. 1. He took a 2-1 lead in games before Squiers retired. In his second match of the day, Oakley took on Cornell's Graham Dietz. Oakley emerged with a 12-10, 11-7, 11-4 victory to advance to the consolation final.
This morning Oakley faced Yale's Pierson Broadwater. Broadwater won the consolation final, 11-7, 11-6, 11-13, 11-8.
Oakley posted a 14-11 record to complete his rookie campaign, including a 12-9 record at No. 1 singles. The Statesmen finished their season with an 8-14 overall record. At the CSA Team Championships, Hobart finished the year No. 23 in the CSA Team Rankings.
