BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Hobart College squash team rallied from a 4-2 deficit to defeat Bowdoin 5-4 at the Lubin Family Squash Center this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen are now 3-7 on the season while the Polar Bears fall to 2-6.
Hobart jumped out to a lead, winning two of the three matches in the first wave. Juniors
Divine Wing and
Matthew Frantz won at Nos. 6 and 9, respectively. Wing defeated Bowdoin's George Cooley 11-8, 11-3, 9-11, 9-11, 16-14, while Frantz knocked off Arjun Dravid 11-5, 12-14, 4-11, 12-10, 12-10.
The Polar Bears took a 4-2 lead with a sweep of the second wave matches. At the No. 2 spot, senior
Felipe Pantle fell five games, 11-6, 11-7, 6-11, 5-11, 11-9.
The Statesmen swept the final wave to clinch the victory. At the top of the lineup, sophomore
Josh Oakley collected his fourth win of the season with an 11-5, 11-4, 11-6 win over Satya Butler. Junior
Terrance Rose won his team-leading fifth match of the season with a 12-10, 11-9, 11-4 victory. First-year
Graham Henderson secured the overall victory for Hobart, defeating Tyler Shonrock 11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8.
The Statesmen will return to the Smith Squash Center on Wednesday, Jan. 18, when they host Cornell. The match is scheduled to begin at Noon. The Polar Bears will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 20 when they face Dickinson and Connecticut College at MIT.
