Hobart to compete for Conroy Cup

The Hobart College squash team will travel to Cambridge, Mass., this weekend for the 2017 College Squash Association Team Championships. Ranked 25th in the nation, the Statesmen will compete for the Conroy Cup.

There will be 62 teams competing in eight divisions at this weekend's CSA Championships. Harvard University will serve as the primary host while matches will also be played at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Brooks School, and Belmont Hill School.

Hobart, which is the top seed in the Conroy Cup division, brings a 7-13 overall record into the weekend.  The Statesmen will open the tournament with No. 31 Connecticut College on Friday at 10 a.m. at MIT. Hobart and the Camels will play for the second time this season. On Jan. 21, the Statesmen defeated the Camels 9-0 in Northampton, Mass. The two teams were scheduled to play last weekend but the match was canceled due to the weather forecast. In the second round, Hobart will face either No. 28 Tufts or No. 29 Hamilton. The other half of the bracket includes No. 26 Wesleyan, No. 27 Bowdoin, No. 30 Stanford, and No. 32 NYU.

Junior Terrance Rose is a team-best 9-11 this year, playing between Nos. 2, 3, and 4. Sophomore Josh Oakley is right behind him with an 8-9 record. Oakley has played all 17 matches this year at No. 1 for the Statesmen. First-year Graham Henderson and junior Matthew Frantz have seven wins each.

Hobart last won the Conroy Cup in 2012, Tim Riskie's first season as head coach. The Statesmen also won the cup in 2007. Hobart has reached the championship match in the Conroy Cup five times.
