CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Hobart College squash team was edged 5-4 by Wesleyan in the College Squash Association Conroy Cup championship match at Harvard's Murr Center this morning.

The Statesmen, who were ranked No. 25 in the most recent College Squash Association rankings advanced to the championship for the first time since 2014 with an 8-1 win over Connecticut College and a 5-4 win over Tufts. The Cardinals, who were No. 26 in those same rankings defeated NYU 8-1 and Bowdoin 5-4 to advance to the championship match.

The Statesmen took an early lead when first-year
Graham Henderson won his ninth match of the season, sweeping The Cardinals' Yahya Ladiwala 11-8, 11-8, 11-8. Wesleyan turned things around winning the next three matches to take a 3-1 lead. The Cardinals won 3-1 at No. 5 and No. 9. In the No. 3 spot Zach Roach rallied to beat junior
Terrance Rose 3-2. Rose jumped out to a lead in the match, taking the first two games 11-6, 11-7. Roach won the last three 11-9, 11-9, 11-5. First-year
Cristian Escalona improved to 8-15 on the year with a 7-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8, 11-2 win in the No. 8 spot. After dropping the first game, junior
Jack Shannon rallied to win a key point for Hobart in the No. 4 spot. He bested Grant Lousubury 10-12, 13-11, 11-3, 11-6. A win in the No. 2 spot gave Wesleyan a 4-3 lead in the match.

Needing just one match to claim the Conroy Cup, the Cardinals' Josh Law notched an 11-7, 11-2, 11-4 win in the No. 7 spot. Hobart sophomore
Josh Oakley won 3-0 in the top spot, sweeping Chris Hart 11-5, 11-1, 11-2. Oakley finished his sophomore campaign with a team-best 11-9 overall record.

The Statesmen completed their season with a 9-14 overall record.
