ITHACA, N.Y.- The William Smith College tennis team defeated Ithaca 6-3 in non-conference action at Glazer Arena this afternoon. With the win, William Smith is now 2-2 on the season.

The Herons swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead in the match. First-years
Allie Perron and
Kate Foley collected their first win as a duo this season with an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles. Seniors
Hannah More and
Katarina Kostovic also won 8-5 in the top spot. At No. 3, junior
Michaelann Denton and sophomore
Sydney Ferry cruised to an 8-1 win.Â

Ithaca (10-2) and William Smith split the singles matches. Denton won her third straight match, defeating Caroline Dunn 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Denton is now 4-3 in singles play this season. The Bombers climbed back into the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 4. Kostovic clinched the overall victory for the Herons with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles. Sophomore
Alex Greenberg bested Jane Alkhazov 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles for her first victory of the season. Ithaca's Brianna Ruback closed out the match in three sets with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.

The Herons will be back in action March 13, when they take on St. Norbert in Orlando, Fla. It will be the first of three spring break matches for William Smith.
