Statesmen to host Saints on Boswell Saturday

Opening faceoff scheduled for 1 PM

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College lacrosse team will play its 2018 home opener against Siena College on Saturday, Feb. 17. Faceoff on Boswell Field is set for 1 p.m.

All fans will be admitted to the game free of charge.

The Statesmen are 3-0 in their past three home openers on Boswell Field, defeating Cornell 16-8 in 2017, Binghamton 12-6 in 2016 and Canisius 10-4 in 2015. In fact, Hobart is 5-1 in its past six home openers, the lone loss was to Siena in a blinding snow storm on Feb. 15, 2014.

Hobart (0-1) is looking to rebound from last week's 15-8 loss at then No. 12 Penn State. Junior attackman Chris Aslanian earned a share of the Northeast Conference Player of the Week award for his efforts against the Nittany Lions. He recorded six points on four goals and two assists. It's the most points by a Statesman in a season opener since Cam Stone '14 produced four goals and two assists in an 18-15 Hobart win at Siena on Feb. 16, 2013.

Saturday will be the season opener for the Saints. Siena is coming off a 3-11 season in 2017. The Saints are led by senior attackman Chris Robertson, who was voted the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, after leading the team with 35 goals and 42 points a year ago.

Last season, Hobart outlasted Siena 16-15 inside Pinnacle Athletic Campus in Victor. The Statesmen charged out to a 12-3 lead with less than three minutes left in the second quarter, but had to withstand a second half rally. The Saints scored the final goal of the game with 50 seconds remaining and got off two more shots in the waning seconds, but both were wide of the cage. Aslanian had four points in that game (1g,3a) while classmates Bryan Hancock (2g,1a) and Stanny Gilbertson (1g,2a) each had three points. Mike Riley led Siena with five points (1g,4a).

Saturday's game, which will be broadcast by WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3), will be the ninth all-time meeting between the Statesmen and the Saints. Hobart leads the all-time series 6-2, including victories in each of the past three seasons.
