The Hobart College lacrosse team will open Northeast Conference play at Wagner College on Saturday, March 17. The opening faceoff at Hameline Field is set for 1 p.m.

The Statesmen (2-4) are looking to rebound from a 12-9 loss at undefeated Georgetown last Saturday. Now in its fifth season in the NEC, Hobart has won each of its past four NEC openers, including last season's 17-5 win over the Seahawks in Geneva.

The Statesmen are led offensively by junior
Chris Aslanian. He sports a team-high 23 points on 12 goals and 11 assists. Last season, Aslanian recorded a Hobart Division I record 13 points against Wagner, scoring six times to go with seven assists. Two years ago, the Westfield, N.J., native scored the game-winning goal 1:08 into the third overtime to give Hobart a 10-9 win at Wagner.

In addition to Aslanian, several other Statesmen hail from across the tri-state are near Staten Island. Junior faceoff specialist
Matthew Pedicine is second in the NEC and 13th in the nation in faceoff winning percentage (.624). He also leads the team with 26 ground balls. In goal, sophomore
Sam Lucchesi, from Garden City, N.Y., is 2-2 with a 9.13 GAA and a .475 save percentage.

Wagner (2-4) is coming off an 11-3 loss at Quinnipiac last Saturday, capping a three-game road trip. The Seahawks are 1-1 at home, defeating Manhattan 11-5 to start the season. Andrew Streilein has a team-high 17 points (9g,8a). Hank Ontiveros is the team's top faceoff man with a .517 success rate and 14 ground balls. Goalie Matt Sefcik is 2-4 with a 9.32 GAA and a .607 save percentage.

The game will be the fifth all-time meeting between Hobart and Wagner. The Statesmen have won each of the past four meetings.
