Statesmen to host #19 Colonials Saturday

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College lacrosse team returns to Boswell Field on Saturday, April 7, to host No. 19 Robert Morris University in a Northeast Conference showdown. The opening faceoff is scheduled for noon.

The game will be broadcast live on WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3). Fans can also follow the action with All-Access Video and Live Stats.

During the game, members of the Hobart and William Smith Student-Athlete Advisory Committees will be collecting donations for Special Olympics New York. The Colleges' SAACs are competing in a friendly "Change War" between the Liberty League, the primary conference for most of HWS' Division III teams, and the Empire 8. Over the past two years, the Liberty League-Empire 8 Change War has raised more than $7,000 for Special Olympics.

Hobart brings a 4-6 overall record and 1-1 NEC mark into the game. The Statesmen are looking to rebound from an 11-4 loss at No. 8 Syracuse on Tuesday. Junior Chris Aslanian leads the offense with 40 points on 20 goals and 20 assists. In each of his two previous games against the Colonials, he has posted five goals and two assists. Junior Matthew Pedicine is one of the top faceoff men in the nation. He's sixth in the country with a .658 success rate at the X to go along with a team-high 54 ground balls. In goal, sophomore Sam Lucchesi is also among the national leaders, ranking 12th in goals against average (8.28) and 21st in save percentage (.531).

Robert Morris sports a 6-3 record (2-1 in the NEC) entering Saturday's contest. The Colonials are looking to bounce back from a 10-7 loss to Bryant last week. Junior Matt Schmidt has a team-high 32 points on 22 goals—including eight extra-man goals, which leads the nation—and 10 assists. Senior Zachary Bryant is seventh in the nation in caused turnovers (2.33/g). Junior goalie Alex Heger has been tough to beat. He's third in the nation in save percentage (.602), eighth in saves per game (12.11) and ninth in goals against average (8.08).

Saturday's NEC game will be the ninth all-time meeting between Hobart and Robert Morris with the Statesmen leading the series 6-2. Five of the eight games between the programs have been decided by two goals or less. The Statesmen are 3-0 in one-goal games against the Colonials (9-8 in 2011, 7-6 in 2015, 18-17 in 2017). In two-goal games, Hobart prevailed 8-6 in 2014 after falling 14-12 two years prior.
