Statesmen host Mountaineers in key NEC game on Senior Day

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College lacrosse team will host Mount St. Mary's University in a key Northeast Conference matchup Saturday, April 20. The opening faceoff on Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium is scheduled for noon.

General admission tickets are $5, children 12 and under are $2. The game will be the first of two on Boswell on Saturday. The nationally-ranked William Smith lacrosse team will host the University of Rochester at 3 p.m.

SAA and Heron Society members, alumni and alumnae, and parents of HWS students are invited to the pregame tailgate in the stadium parking lot. The event will be hosted by the Office of Alumni and Alumnae Relations.

Hobart's 13 seniors will be honored prior to the start of their final regular season home game. They have led the Statesmen to a record of 32-27 over the past four seasons, winning the 2017 NEC regular season title and the 2016 NEC Tournament championship. The 32 wins are the most by a Hobart lacrosse class since the Class of 1996 graduated with a 34-19 record.

Hobart brings a 9-3 overall record into the game and a 3-1 mark in NEC play. The Statesmen lead the league in scoring (14.42 gpg), assists (9.42 apg), points (23.83), faceoff percentage (.622), ground balls (36.42), and man-down defense (.694).

Junior Eric Holden leads the team with 34 goals and 48 points. Senior Chris Aslanian has an NEC-high 30 assists and is second on the team with 46 points. First-year Jason Knox has scored 27 goals, two shy of Hobart's Division I era record for a first-year set by junior Justin Scott in 2007. Faceoff specialist Matthew Pedicine has won 62.6% of his faceoffs this season and leads the NEC with 130 ground balls.

Junior goalie Sam Lucchesi is 7-2 as a starter, sporting a .521 save percentage and a 10.34 goals against average. Junior defenseman PJ Delpha leads Hobart with 12 caused turnovers.

The Mountaineers are riding a five-game win streak, sporting an 8-5 overall record and a 4-0 mark in the NEC. Senior attackman Chris DiPretoro leads the team with 32 goals and 38 assists. Senior Jack Mangan and junior Brendan Doyle share the team lead with 10 assists apiece. Sophomore Sam Stephan is the team's top faceoff man, winning 52.5 percent of the time at the X with a team-high 82 ground balls. Sophomore defenseman Bryan McIntosh has a team-leading 23 caused turnovers. Sophomore goalie Dylan Furnback is 8-5 with a 10.49 GAA and a .518 save percentage.

The game has huge implications for the NEC regular season championship. A win by the Mountaineers would clinch the title outright, while a win by the Statesmen would put them in position to clinch at least a share of the NEC regular season title and the top seed in the NEC Tournament with a win at Robert Morris April 27.

The game will be broadcast live on WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3). Fans can also follow the action online with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats.
