The Hobart College lacrosse team will travel to Moon Township, Pa., to take on Robert Morris University in the regular season finale Saturday, April 27. The NEC matchup at Joe Walton Stadium will faceoff at 1 p.m.
This year's NEC playoff race remains wide open heading into the final games of the regular season. Five of the seven NEC teams remain in contention for a spot in the four-team field, but no team has clinched a berth. Hobart can clinch at least a share of the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the NEC Tournament with a win over Robert Morris. The Statesmen (10-3, 4-1) currently share first place with Mount St. Mary's, but hold the tie-breaker over the Mountaineers by virtue of last Saturday's 11-8 win over the Mount in Geneva. If Hobart loses, the Statesmen could still secure any one of the four seeds in the playoffs or miss the tournament entirely based on a wide-array of tie-break scenarios (
see the NEC playoff scenarios chart).
The Statesmen are paced offensively by senior
Chris Aslanian and junior
Eric Holden. Aslanian, the reigning NEC Player of the week after posting six points against Mount Saint Mary's, has 21 goals and an NEC-leading 31 assists for 52 points. Holden is currently leads the team with 37 goals and 53 points. First-year
Jason Knox is second on the team in goals with 28. Junior
Sam Lucchesi is 8-2 in in goal with a .527 save percentage and a 10.13 goals against average.
Robert Morris (6-7, 3-2) is riding a five-game winning streak after beginning the season 1-7. The Colonials are led by senior Tyson Gibson and junior Ryan Smith, who each have 50 points. Gibson is first on the team in assists (27) and third in goals (23). Smith is second on the team in both goals (32) and assists (18). Sophomore Korson Kealey is first on the team in goals (40). Senior goalkeeper Alex Heger has started all 13 games in net this season, producing a .487 save percentage and a 13.66 goals against average.
The game will be broadcast live on WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3). Fans can also follow the action with live video on
