#20 Statesmen head to Philly to face NEC rival SJU

The nationally-ranked Hobart College lacrosse team will travel to Philadelphia for an NEC matchup at Saint Joseph's University on Saturday, April 6. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m. at Sweeney Field.

The Statesmen (8-2, 2-0) aim to rebound from a home loss to No. 11 Syracuse on Tuesday. The loss snapped Hobart's six-game win streak that included conference wins over Wagner and Sacred Heart.

Hobart is ranked in the top five in the nation in eight of the 15 statistical categories the NCAA tracks. The Statesmen are second in assists per game (9.6), third in points per game (24.6), scoring offense (15.0), and winning percentage (.800), fourth in faceoff winning percentage (.650) and scoring margin (+4.2), and fifth in ground balls per game (37.4) and man-up offense (.471).

Senior faceoff specialist Matthew Pedicine leads the NEC in faceoff percentage (.656) and ground balls per game (12.1). He enters the game with 272 career ground balls, 12 shy of Bobby Dattilo's total, the Hobart Division I era standard.

When the Statesmen have the ball, the attack features 17 players who have at least one goal this season, including six with 10 or more. Junior Eric Holden leads the way with 29 goals and 42 points. Senior Chris Aslanian has a team-high 26 assists and is second with 39 points.

On the defensive end, junior goaltender Sam Lucchesi has started each of the past seven games and sports a 6-1 record, a .547 save percentage and a 10.07 GAA. Junior defenseman PJ Delpha has a team-high 12 caused turnovers to go with 12 ground balls.

Following a 15-9 loss to Robert Morris last Saturday, Saint Joseph's brings a 5-5 overall record and a 1-1 conference mark into the game. Sophomore Nate Patterson leads the Hawks with 30 points on 14 goals and 16 assists. First-year Ryan Doran is tied with Patterson for a team lead in goals 14, and is second with 22 points. Sophomore goaltender Mike Alder is 5-5 with a .502 save percentage and a 10.70 GAA.

Fans unable to make it to the game can follow the action online with live stats and live video on sjuhawks.com. The game will also be broadcast live on WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3).
