Arnold Scholar-Athlete Awards presented at Block H

The Hobart College Athletic Department presented the Arnold Scholar-Athlete Award to 14 Statesmen at the annual Block H Awards Dinner. The award recognizes the true spirit of the Statesman student-athlete by honoring Hobart men in their sophomore and junior years for contributions to the community, for a high level of academic achievement and for their selfless dedication as a member of a Hobart varsity team.
 
This year, the award was presented to tennis sophomore Walker Anderson, basketball sophomore Jack Lesure, soccer sophomore Kyle Mangold, lacrosse sophomore Dan Ryan, hockey sophomore Travis Schneider, football sophomore Collin Urie, and rowing sophomore Bart Voto. In addition, basketball junior Sam Allen, sailing junior Ian Beckley, cross country junior William Fletcher, football junior Collin Hudgins, hockey junior Lawson MacDougall, rowing junior Henry Vachon, and soccer junior Nick Wigglesworth.
 
A history and psychology double major, Anderson is an ITA Scholar-Athlete and a member of Hobart's Orange Key honor society. In his two seasons, he has compiled a 28-16 overall record in singles play and 34-18 record in doubles play. Anderson won the 2018 ITA Northeast Regional Doubles Championship with junior Alan Dubrovsky.
 
A philosophy major, Lesure was named to the Liberty League All-Academic team. He is a Dean's List student and a member of Hobart's Orange Key honor society. In two seasons at guard, Lesure has played in 54 games. He is averaging 3.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg, and 1.0 apg.
 
An economics major, Mangold was named to the Liberty League All-Academic team. A midfielder, he has played in 22 games in two seasons. He has five goals and 10 points, scoring a pair of game-winning goals this season.
 
An economics major, Ryan was named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll as a first-year (the 2019 honor roll will be announced later this month). A long stick midfielder, he has played in 27 career games, he has three caused turnovers and 13 groundballs.
 
An economics and psychology double major, Schneider was selected to the NEHC All-Academic team. He has played in 58 games during his first two seasons, recording 20 goals and 14 assists for 34 points. Schneider led the team with 16 goals this season.
 
A computer science major, Urie was named to the Liberty League All-Academic team this year. He has played in 11 career games, making 13 tackles.
 
A biochemistry and environmental studies double major, Voto is a member of Hobart's Orange Key Society and won the first-year chemistry award. He serves as coxswain for the second varsity eight, winning a gold medal at last year's Liberty League Championship.
 
A sociology and environmental studies double major, Allen is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic team selection. He was named an Arnold Scholar Athlete last year as well. Allen was a CoSIDA Academic All-District team selection as a sophomore. Allen has played in 72 career games, averaging 6.5 ppg and 3.7 rpg.
 
A geoscience major, Beckley is a dean's list student. He finished 11th at the Laser North Singlehanded regatta and eighth at the MAISA Laser Championship.
 
An international relations and Asian studies double major, Fletcher is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic team selection. He is a member of the Chimera Honor Society. Fletcher ran in five races this fall. He posted a season-best 8-kilometer time at the Liberty League Championships on Oct. 27, stopping the clock at 27:49.1.
 
An economics major, Hudgins is a two time Liberty League All-Academic selection and a two-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar. He has played in 22 games in his three seasons, compiling 49 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and two fumble recoveries. Hudgins earned a spot on the 2018 All-Liberty League second team.
 
An economics major, MacDougall is a two-time NEHC All-Academic selection.  He has played in 76 career games, compiling 20 goals, 41 assists and 61 points. This season MacDougall had nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points.
 
A geoscience major, Vachon earned Liberty League All-Academic honors and was an Arnold Scholar-Athlete Award recipient last year. A member of Hobart's first varsity for the past two seasons, he helped the Statesmen earn Liberty League Boat of the Week honors following a fourth place finish at the Head of the Charles Regatta this fall.
 
An economics major, Wigglesworth was a Liberty League All-Academic team selection this fall. A transfer from Brandeis, he has played in 30 games in two seasons at Hobart. He has two goals and an assist for five points.
 
More than 60 individual and department-wide awards were presented at the Block H. Additional award winners will be announced on HWSAthletics.com in the coming days.
