TROY, N.Y.—William Smith College forward
Julia Keogh was named the Liberty League's Offensive Performer of the Week by the conference office this afternoon. This is the third time this season she has received the honor. In addition, defender
Katrine Berg earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.
Keogh and Berg powered the sixth-ranked Herons to a 2-0-0 week on Cozzens Field. On Friday, William Smith jumped out to a three-goal lead in the ninth minute and never looked back as they cruised to an 8-0 win over Union. On Senior Day, William Smith knocked off Rensselaer 3-0. Ten of William Smith's 11 goals on the weekend were scored by seniors who were honored before the start of Saturday's game, their final regular season home game. With the victories, the Herons extended their win streak to 11 games and are now 12-1-1 overall this season and 7-0-0 in Liberty League play. William Smith secured at least a share of the league's regular season title with the victory over RPI.
Keogh led the Herons with four goals and eight points over the weekend. Against the Dutchwomen, she struck twice in the second half. The next day, Keogh opened the scoring in the sixth minute. She added an insurance goal in the 88th minute, burying her second penalty kick goal of the season.
Through 14 games this season, Keogh leads the team with 14 goals and 33 points. She is eighth in the nation in total points, 11th in total goals, 16th in points per game (2.36) and 19th in goals per game (1.00). On William Smith's single-season list, Keogh is tied for 13th in goals and 14th in points. She needs just one goal and three points to move into the top-10 in both lists.
Berg had three assists this past weekend. Against the Dutchwomen, she set up Keogh's first goal of the game in the 51st minute. On Saturday, she factored into both first half goals, sending a beautiful cross into the box on the game-winning goal and bending a corner kick onto
Sarah Gray's head in the 44th minute. Berg now has a team-best eight assists this year. She is 10th in the nation in total assists and 22nd in assists per game (0.57).
On the defensive end of the field, Berg helped William Smtih record its ninth and 10th consecutive shutouts. The defensive unit limited Union and RPI to a combined 12 shots on the weekend. The Herons have 12 shutouts on the season and lead the nation in shutout percentage (.857) and are 14th in the nation in goals against average (0.35).
William Smith will head out on the road to wrap up its regular season. The Herons start their two-game road trip Saturday, Oct. 23, when they take on Vassar. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
