POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—The 21-st ranked William Smith College squash team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Vassar at the Vassar Squash Courts this morning. With the win, the Herons are now 3-1 to start the season.
William Smith notched 3-0 wins in seven of today's nine matches. In the No. 1 spot,
Marce Marquez Martinez knocked off Claire Cross, 11-6, 11-4, 11-3. It was Martinez's second win of the season.
Laila Selim rolled to an 11-0, 11-6, 11-7 in the No. 2 spot. Selim is now 3-1 this season in the No. 2 spot.
Diya Moolani, bested Nicole Pihlstrom, 11-5, 11-5, 13-11, in the No. 3 spot.
Lark Ervasti remained undefeated thanks to a win over Oliva Berkson in the No. 5 spot. Ervasti prevailed 11-2, 11-0, 11-2.
Jada Smith-Padmore lost one game as she beat Darina Kulaha, 11-0, 11-1, 11-0. Smith-Padmore is 4-0 this season.
Jo Pacheco and
Molly Wachter won at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively. Pacheco beat Melina Stavropoulos, 11-2, 11-2, 11-6. Wachter topped Sophia Choudhri 11-1, 11-1, 11-0.
In the closest match of the day,
Shante Frank bested Claire Weiss, 11-7, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9. The Brewers only had eight players, so William Smith won the match in the No. 9 spot by forfeit.
William Smith will be back in action next weekend, Nov. 19-20 when it travels to Clinton, New York, to take on three NESCA teams. The Herons will face Connecticut College on Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday afternoon, William Smith will compete against Tufts at 11 a.m. and Hamilton at 5 p.m.
