#21 Herons defeat #24 Camels, #22 Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y.—The 21st-ranked William Smith College squash teams logged a pair of victories in matches held at Hamilton College this weekend. The Herons defeated Connecticut College 8-1 on Friday night and bested Hamilton 7-2 on Saturday. Sixteenth-ranked Tufts topped William Smith 6-3 on Saturday morning.
 
The Herons are now 5-2 overall this season and will wrap up the 2021 portion of its schedule on Dec. 5 when it heads back to Hamilton to take on Wesleyan.
 
Laila Selim, Lark Ervasti and Molly Wachter were all 3-0 on the weekend. Selim has won four straight matches and is 6-1 overall this season. On Friday, she cruised past Isabel Schumacher, 11-2, 11-1, 11-2.  In Saturday's first match, Selim rallied for a 9-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9 victory over Caroline Chin. Against Hamilton, she defeated Sarah Stonestreet, 11-6, 3-11, 11-3, 11-8.  Ervasti won two of her three matches 3-0. Against the Jumbos' Aleezah Burhan she posted an 11-7, 2-11, 11-8, 11-6 victory. Ervasti is a perfect 5-0 this season. Wachter is 6-1 this season after her three wins this weekend.
 
On Friday against Connecticut College, the Herons won seven of their eight points 3-0. Marce Marquez Martinez rolled past Rachel Matamoros, 11-3, 11-0, 11-2, in the No. 1 spot. Diya Moolani knocked off Liliana Vazquez, 11-3, 11-1, 11-5, in the No. 3 spot. Jada Smith-Padmore bested Johanile Hurtado, 11-8, 11-2, 11-6. In the closest match of the day, Jo Pacheco edged Caroline Champa, 10-12, 11-3, 11-2, 14-12.
 
Against Tufts, the Herons kept the match close, but the Jumbos pulled away with 3-0 wins at No. 5, 6 and 9. Marquez Martinz was edged in five games, 11-8, 5-11, 10-12, 11-7, 11-6, in the No. 1 spot. Sanjana Vissapragada rallied to beat Moolani, 10-12, 10-12, 11-2, 11-9-, 11-8, at No. 3. Ellie Ackerman slipped past Pacheco, 11-5 14-16 11-7, 9-11.
 
On Saturday afternoon, the Herons logged wins in seven of the first eight spots of the lineup to secure the victory. Moolani, Ervasti and Frank cruised to 3-0 victories. Moolani topped Hope Worcester, 11-9, 12-10, 11-1, in the No. 3 spot of the lineup. Moolani is 4-2 this season. Shante Frank improved to 5-2 on the season, dispatching Sydney Soloway, 11-3, 11-6, 11-6. Marquez Martinez and Selim won 3-1 at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Wachter rallied to defeat Katie Hodulik, 4-11, 10-12, 11-9, 12-10 11-8, at the No. 8 spot.
