CLINTON, N.Y.—The 21st-ranked William Smith College squash team wrapped up the 2021 portion of its schedule with an 8-1 victory over 24th-ranked Wesleyan at Hamilton College this afternoon. With the victory, the Herons are 6-2 overall this season.
William Smith earned six of their eight points with 3-0 victories.
Marce Marquez Martinez cruised to her fifth win of the season, besting Anika Kewalramani in the No. 1 spot, 11-4, 11-2, 11-1. Marquez Martinez is 5-3 overall this season in the top spot of the lineup.
Laila Selim and
Molly Wachter extended their winning streaks to five with wins at No. 2 and No. 8, respectively. Selim defeated Marangela James, 11-3, 11-8, 11-3, in the No. 2 spot. Selim is 7-1 overall this season playing all eight matches in the No. 2 spot. In the closest match of the day, Wachter edged Aashni Parikh, 12-10, 9-11, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10, in the No. 8 spot. Wachter is 5-1 in the No. 8 spot of the lineup.
Jo Pacheco joined Selim and Wachter with seven wins, besting Sydney Kim, 11-9, 11-4, 11-9.
Jada Smith-Padmore,
Lark Ervasti and
Shante Frank logged 3-0 wins in the middle three spots of the lineup. Smith-Padmore is 6-2 on the season with a tightly contested 11-9, 13-11, 11-8 win at No. 4. Ervasti remained undefeated, besting Emma Smith, 11-7, 11-6, 11-5, in the No. 5 spot. Frank also notched her sixth win of the season with a win in the No. 6 spot.
Diya Moolani closed out the match with a 6-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-3 victory in the No. 3 spot.
William Smith will be back in action on Jan. 14 when it continues its run of matches against NESCAC opponents. The Herons will take on Bowdoin at 3 p.m. in Brunswick, Maine.
